What Is UGC NET?

The UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) is conducted biannually, in June and December, to assess eligibility for academic positions in Indian universities and colleges.

The exam is conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode and consists of two papers:

Paper 1: Common for all candidates, evaluating teaching and research aptitude.

Paper 2: Subject-specific, with 83 subjects available for selection.

Clearing the UGC NET exam opens up career opportunities as Assistant Professors, Lecturers, or Junior Research Fellows (JRF).

To pass the UGC NET exam, candidates in the general category need at least 40% marks. For OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, and transgender candidates, the passing marks are 35%. The exam determines eligibility for assistant professor posts, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), and PhD admissions.
