GATE 2025 : The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level entrance examination administered by the seven IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore for admitting students to postgraduate programmes (ME, MTech, and direct PhD). A good GATE score can help secure admission to some of the top educational institutes in India, including IITs, NITs, and IISc.
Every year, various universities accept students based on their GATE scores in multiple fields. Candidates who have taken the exam should be aware of the colleges they can apply to if they qualify. Below is a list of some of the top institutes accepting admissions via GATE scores.
Top Engineering Colleges Accepting GATE Scores
IIT Madras
Ranked number 1 in the NIRF ranking for best MTech colleges in India, IIT Madras offers M.Tech programmes with a tuition fee of Rs 20,000 for the entire course.
IIT Delhi
Ranked number 2, IIT Delhi accepts students through GATE scores. The tuition fee for MTech at IIT Delhi ranges from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, depending on the specialisation.
IIT Bombay
IIT Bombay, ranked number 3 in the NIRF rankings, has tuition fees ranging from Rs 1.2 lakh to Rs 2.69 lakh, depending on the specific specialisation.
IIT Kanpur
Ranked number 4, IIT Kanpur charges around Rs 25,000 per semester for M.Tech students. SC/ST/PWD category students (excluding sponsored/part-time) receive a 100% fee waiver.
IIT Kharagpur
The tuition fee for the MTech programme at IIT Kharagpur is Rs 20,000 per year, with a total course fee ranging between Rs 84,880 to Rs 1.44 lakh.
IIT Roorkee
Ranked number 6, IIT Roorkee charges Rs 20,000 for General/OBC/QIP category candidates, Rs 10,000 for sponsored candidates, and offers free education for SC/ST/PD candidates. Several other IITs such as IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT BHU also admit students to M.Tech programmes based on GATE scores.
NIT Trichy
Apart from IITs, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirappalli also admits MTech students based on GATE scores. The tuition fee for a two-year M.Tech programme at NIT Trichy is around Rs 1.40 lakh.
VIT Vellore
Several renowned private universities, including Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), ranked number 12 in the NIRF rankings, provide admissions through GATE scores. The M.Tech tuition fees range from Rs 1.6 lakh to Rs 6 lakh, depending on the specialisation and category.
