Gauhati University : The Gauhati University, Assam has appointed Nanigopal Mahanta as the 18th vice chancellor of the University. The announcement was made by Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on the microblogging site, X. The Vice Chancellor was serving as the political science professor at the varsity.
In the past, Nanigopal Mahanta was the education adviser for the Assam government. The education minister also named new vice-chancellors for Rabindranath Tagore University and Bhattadeva University.
Professor Manabendra Dutta Choudhury has been appointed vice chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University, while Professor Dhanpati Deka has assumed charge as vice chancellor of Bhattadeva University.
According to reports, Mahanta has graduated from Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University with a degree in political science. He also received a second master’s degree from Berkley University of California in Peace, Conflict Resolution, and Policy Studies. He went as a Rotary World Peace Fellow to the United States.
