IRS Rahul Navin Appointed Full-time Director Of Enforcement Directorate
Enforcement Directorate : On August 14, the Centre appointed Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Rahul Navin, the acting Enforcement Directorate (ED), as the full-time director of the financial crimes probe agency, ED, for two years. He is an IRS officer of the 1993 batch of the Income Tax cadre. The officer was already the interim in charge since last September when the former director, Sanjay Kumar Mishra, completed his tenure.
The appointment of IRS Special Director, ED, Rahul Navin as Director of Enforcement for two years was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), which was chaired by India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and included Union Home Minister, Amit Shah. He has been appointed to the position for two years “from the date of assumption of charge of the post” or “until further orders,” whichever comes first, according to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
IRS Rahul Navin, who is 57 years old, is from Bihar. In November of 2019, he joined the ED. He also held the position of Chief Vigilance Officer prior to joining the ED. Since September of last year, when he was acting chief of ED, the agency used the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to make a number of high-profile arrests. It also included the cases of Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of the Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi, Sanjay Singh, Leader of the BRS, K Kavitha, and Hemant Soren, Chief Minister of Jharkhand, in an alleged land-grabbing case.
The position of Commissioner of Income Tax was given to Rahul Navin of the IRS in 2017. He was assigned to ED in 2019 as an Officer on Special Duty. He was also appointed Special Director of ED in November 2020. He has also held the positions of Additional Director and Course Director in addition to these titles.
In September of that year, the Supreme Court declared it illegal for Sanjay Kumar Mishra to continue serving as the head of the Central Agency for an additional year. As a result, Rahul Navin was appointed as the ED’s interim chief.
