IIT Mandi :IIT Mandi has opened applications for its MA in Development Studies, a unique two-year programme under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. This programme offers students a comprehensive understanding of development, sustainability, and empowerment, with a special emphasis on the Himalayan region. It integrates theoretical perspectives with practical research and fieldwork, allowing students to engage with real-world challenges.
The 80-credit coursework covers local, regional, and global development concerns, providing a multidisciplinary approach. Additionally, students have the option to apply for the MA + PhD Dual Degree, enabling them to transition seamlessly into advanced research.
Beyond academics, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Mandi actively contributes to local community development by conducting training programmes aimed at fostering self-sufficiency in the Kamand region.
Dr. Surya Prakash Upadhyay, Chairperson of the School of Humanities & Social Sciences, IIT Mandi, stated: “The MA in Development Studies is a distinctive programme with a strong focus on the Himalayan region. It allows students to conduct research on key developmental aspects while engaging in practical fieldwork relevant at local, regional, and global levels. Additionally, the programme offers an option to pursue an MA + Ph.D. Dual Degree at IIT Mandi, facilitating a seamless transition into advanced research.”
He further added: “This programme aims to create a cadre of development practitioners and academics who will be equipped to contribute effectively to informed decision-making processes.”
Eligibility Criteria
- A bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution with at least 55% marks or a CGPA of 6.0 out of 10.
- SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/PwD candidates receive a relaxation of 50% marks and 5.5 CGPA out of 10.
Admission Process
- Online application followed by a written test and/or interview.
- The list of selected candidates will be published on the IIT Mandi website.
