UGC launches two new open online courses on arctic, polar studies

UGC : The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched two Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on arctic, polar studies on the SWAYAM portal. The courses are available for registration on the SWAYAM platform for the July 2024 semester at swayam.gov.in. The courses will commence from July 18, 2024. The duration of each course is 15 weeks, and each MOOC carries four credits. These courses can be used for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

“Many are interested about the quickly changing Icy locale and its effect on the world, including India. The Cold is impacted by a fragile environment framework, a snare of interdisciplinary sciences, and worldwide regulation,” expressed UGC in an authority proclamation.

“This initiative is in line with the National Education Policy 2020 and aims to provide the best online courses to raise students’ awareness of science in colleges and universities and to improve understanding of polar research and climate science. The UGC Well-informed authority Council has chosen courses coordinating with the six mainstays of the Icy Strategy of India,” the commission added.

Everything from the monsoon seasons to rising sea levels is affected by shifting weather patterns, which have global consequences. Courses on the Arctic are a valuable addition for our youth in light of the significance of the region to global conversations and our nation. These courses are credit-qualified, and colleges have the adaptability to incorporate them as indicated by their favored plan of educational program,” said UGC boss Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar.
