NIT Rourkela hosts its 20th convocation

Today, February 4, the 20th convocation of the National Institute of Technology Rourkela or NIT Rourkela was held. In the 20th convocation of NIT Rourkela, 1,717 students received degrees. According to a statement from the institute, NIT Rourkela uploaded the degree certificates and transcripts of the graduating students on DigiLocker in accordance with the vision of Digital India.

During today’s 20th Annual Convocation event, Soma Mondal, Chairman of the Steel Authority of India (SAIL), who was in attendance as the Chief Guest, unveiled the Digilocker facility. According to IT Rourkela, this facility will enable graduating students to store their degrees in a digital wallet, removing the need for paper copies and the associated administrative burdens.

According to the institute, NIT Rourkela is notable for being the first NIT and the second among “Institutes of National Importance” in the nation to offer “Blockchain-based digital degrees” to its graduating students.

Mondal stated, during the event, ” This event is a celebration of all stakeholders’ successful contributions to the Institute’s glory and the conclusion of another academic pursuit by students… Aim to become a trendsetter, a leader, and flourish in a variety of areas to become an all-rounder. I encourage all of the graduating students to live their dreams and work toward a better tomorrow.

The number of female graduates from the Institute’s various streams has increased. This year, there were a total of 351 female students, or more than 20% of the graduating class, including 136 in bachelor’s programs; NIT Rourkela has produced 177 graduates from master’s programs and 38 from PhD programs. In addition, the Institute’s female-to-male ratio has significantly increased in recent years, going from 1:6 to 1:4.
