JEE Advanced 2023 Registrations Rise

JEE Advanced 2023: There has been a significant increase in the number of candidates registering for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)-Advanced after clearing the JEE-Main, with the percentage increasing from 61.5 in 2022 to 76 percent in 2023. This is a noteworthy improvement after experiencing a gradual decline in the number of candidates registering for JEE Advanced from 2014 to 2022.

The registration window for JEE Advanced closed on Monday, and out of the 2.5 lakh candidates who qualified for the exam, almost 1.9 lahks have registered for the entrance test to secure admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Of these, 1.46 lakh are male candidates while 44,000 are female candidates, as per the information provided by IIT Guwahati, which is conducting JEE Advanced this year.

Out of the total 1.9 lakh candidates who registered for JEE Advanced, only 1.46 lakh were boys despite 1.9 lakh boys qualifying for the exam. On the other hand, out of the 60,000 girls who qualified for the exam, only 44,000 registered for it. In addition, over 100 foreign nationals and nearly 400 Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) candidates have registered for the June 4 exam, even though there are no test centers available in foreign countries. All candidates, including foreign nationals, will have to appear for the exam at designated centers in India.

It’s good to know that the number of candidates registering for JEE Advanced has increased compared to last year, despite a drop in the number of candidates who qualified for the exam. This may be due to various reasons such as increased awareness, better preparation, and availability of resources. It will be interesting to see how many candidates actually appear for the exam and how the results turn out.

It seems that the percentage of students registering for JEE Advanced has seen a fluctuating trend over the past years, with the lowest percentage recorded in 2021 when only 58.1% of the eligible candidates registered for the exam, while the previous year, in 2020, 64.1% of the eligible candidates registered. The percentage of students registering for JEE Advanced in the years before 2020 was 79%, 78.6%, 77.4%, 71.7%, and 71.7% in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019, respectively.

It is common for the total number of seats and the seat matrix for IITs to be finalized only after the JEE Advanced results are out. The number of seats available in IITs may vary from year to year depending on factors such as the number of new courses introduced, faculty strength, infrastructure facilities, etc. It is likely that the number of seats available for admission to IITs will be announced after the JEE Advanced 2023 results are declared.
