IIT Madras, THSTI Faridabad researchers develop AI model to determine foetus age

IIT Madras: Researchers at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Madras) and Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI Faridabad) have developed the first India-specific artificial intelligence (AI) model to determine the age of a foetus in a pregnant woman in the second and third trimesters precisely. The model has been developed as part of the ‘Interdisciplinary group for advanced research on birth outcomes – DBT India initiative’ (GARBH-Ini) programme.

Exact ‘gestational age’ (GA) is fundamental for the suitable consideration of pregnant ladies and for deciding exact conveyance dates. Called ‘Garbhini-GA2’, this is the principal late-trimester GA assessment model to be created and approved utilizing Indian populace information.

Rajesh Gokhale, secretary, branch of biotechnology (DBT), said, “GARBH-Ini is a leader program of DBT, and the improvement of these populace explicit models for assessing gestational age is an excellent result. These models are being approved the nation over.”

This exploration was embraced by Himanshu Sinha, academic partner, Bhupat and Jyoti Mehta School of Biosciences, division of biotechnology, IIT Madras; Shinjini Bhatnagar, head examiner of GARBH-Ini program and a teacher at THSTI and different scientists. The discoveries were distributed in the renowned worldwide friend explored diary Lancet Territorial Wellbeing Southeast Asia.
