V K Tewary, director of IIT Kharagpur, stated on Saturday that an IIT is anticipated to open in Malaysia in the near future as part of the premier institute’s strategy to establish high-quality higher educational institutions outside of India.

Tewary stated that IIT Kharagpur’s goal is to be one of the world’s top 10 institutions during his speech at the 68th Convocation. IIT Malaysia will be a major step for the institute to set its global footprint in the international domain of higher education, promoting Indian standards of education, “he stated. IIT Kharagpur aims to become the global benchmark in education excellence by establishing IIT Malaysia.

Tewary stated as the audience broke into cheers that the institute had compiled a list of its 75 innovations. He stated, “While the Covirap diagnostic kit for coronavirus was sold at a price of Rs 6.7 crore, many other successful new devices were sold at prices of more than Rs one crore,” listing the project innovation successes of IIT Kharagpur over the past two years.

According to Tewary, the institute has established the 260-bed Syama Prasad Mookerjee Institute of Medical Sciences. “We are supporting 25 identified innovations.” From Vinod Gupta to Sunder Pichai, thousands of former IIT KGPians contributed to the institution’s success,” he continued.

Peter Chan, Chief Executive Officer of Herons Bonsai Ltd., who graduated from IIT Kharagpur in 1962 and served as the Convocation’s Chief Guest, expressed his pride in having been shaped by the “institute of eminence” He said that, in the future, IITs should also offer degrees in climate change, stating that the future of multidisciplinary higher education is bright because of all the innovations that are taking place.
