IIT Bombay sets up committee for PwD cell
The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay) established a committee on campus for students with disabilities to address the challenges they face.
The Ambedkar, Periyar, Phule study circle (APPSC), a student organization, expressed gratitude for IIT Bombay’s action and expressed the hope that “the cell can ensure that 5% reservation for PwD students and faculty is implemented henceforth.”
The institute noticed that there are a lot of students on the IIT campus who have disabilities (PwD), and they are having a lot of trouble in school and in their daily lives. The committee for the PwD students cell has been established with faculty members serving for three years and students serving for one year.
It added that the term could be extended if necessary.
The PwD students cell committee has been given the task of developing and maintaining policies and guidelines for faculty and students based on Indian law, with an emphasis on academic evaluation. Before they can be put into effect, the IIT Bombay director will need to approve the PwD cell’s guidelines.
In addition, the committee will be in charge of organizing orientation sessions for students and faculty, including online sessions to prepare students for IIT Bombay both before and after their admission. It will likewise be responsible for making and overseeing site for direction of PwD understudies.
The committee will address the complaints of students in addition to creating support systems like mentorship and transportation facilities.
