Government setting up single national fellowship portal

Rajesh Gokhale, secretary of the Department of Biotechnology, stated that the government is working toward the establishment of single national fellowship portal. Gokhale was responding to a letter from Rajya Sabha MP Amar Patnaik asking about government efforts to enhance India’s research ecosystem.

The DBT secretary stated that the ministry of earth sciences and the ministry of science and technology are collaborating to establish a single national fellowship portal.

He added that the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Senior Research Fellowship (SRF), and other young scientist fellowships are not directly reviewed by the department of biotechnology. The response stated that the ministry of science and technology is in charge of revising the fellowships for these positions.

In September this year, the All India Exploration Researchers Affiliations (AIRSA) kept in touch with Srivari Chandrasekhar, overseer of science and innovation (DST) looking for an expansion in partnership, clinical offices and better examination foundation.

In addition, it requested that the Department of Science and Technology (DST) raise the age requirement for INSPIRE faculty positions. The DST has not contacted them yet.
The DST announced in July that it would merge the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) fellowship with the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY).

The scientists, scholars, and researchers did not like the decision. It was referred to as a “terrible” decision by several professors. Similar to this, the central government recently ended the Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF) program, which helped students from Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Parsi, and Sikh communities earn their master’s and doctoral degrees in philosophy over the course of five years.

MPs, students, and others have criticized the government for making the decision and organized nationwide protests to demand that it be changed right away.
