Tezpur University to start department of defence studies
The Assam-based Tezpur University made the announcement on Sunday that it is considering starting a department of defense studies. The plan has the backing of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Since April of this year, the central university has already begun providing Chinese language instruction to members of the Indian Army.
A statement issued by the university stated, “Tezpur University is planning to start the Department of Defence Studies, marking a significant milestone in the university’s commitment to foster excellence in national security education.” The decision has already been approved by the highest executive body of Tezpur University (TU), the Academic Council and Board of Management.
Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, vice chancellor at TU, met with the Defense Minister to discuss the initiative. During his meeting with the Defense Minister, Prof. Singh emphasized the significance of Tezpur University’s establishment of a Defense Studies Department due to the city’s proximity to China and presence of the Indian Army’s IV Corps and Defence Research Laboratory. “The Minister has assured all support from his Ministry and expressed appreciation for the University’s initiative,” the statement stated.
