Brief History of Albania:
Ancient Albania:
Ancient Albania, also known as Illyria, was inhabited by the Illyrians, an ancient Indo-European tribe. It was conquered by the Roman Empire around 167 BC and became part of the Roman province of Illyricum. After the fall of the Roman Empire, it went through several periods of occupation by different empires.
Medieval Period:
During the medieval era, Albania was part of the Byzantine Empire. In the 11th century, it came under Norman rule, followed by the Serbian Empire and then the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century. The Ottoman rule lasted for centuries, greatly influencing Albanian culture and society.
Modern Era:
Albania declared its independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1912, forming the Principality of Albania. The country faced political instability and was occupied by Italy during World War II. After the war, Albania became a communist state under Enver Hoxha, isolating itself from the rest of the world.
Recent History:
Albania saw significant political and economic changes in the late 20th century. The fall of communism in 1991 led to a transition to a democratic system. The country experienced social and economic reforms, striving for integration into the European Union.
