NMC: The National Medical Commission’s (NMC) anti-ragging cell has formed a national task force on the mental health and well-being of medical students. The task force is conducting an online survey of both medical students and faculty across medical colleges in India.
Using a Google form, the task force has created a set of questions and invited all medical students and faculty to participate in the survey. The survey responses must be submitted by May 3, 2024.
The identities of the participants will not be made public and will be kept strictly confidential. In addition to the news about the NMC survey, Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) have asked the National Medical Commission (NMC) to allow internship programs at non-teaching hospitals in order to accommodate more qualified FMGs. The information will only be used by the task force for analysis and recommendations in its report. The graduates’ association brought to light a number of difficulties that FMGs face, such as delays in initiation by the State Medical Councils (SMCs) and the extension of the internship period from two to three years.
“I ask the Public Clinical Commission to consider this proposition and make a conclusive move to address the situation of unfamiliar clinical alumni. The wellbeing of our healthcare system as a whole and the future of many aspiring medical professionals depend on your support in this matter, AFA requested.
Additionally, the association recommended including non-teaching hospitals as recognized locations for FMGE candidates to complete internship programs.
