In India, the Constitution is the supreme legal document that outlines the country’s political framework and establishes the basis for the government’s authority. The Constitution of India was adopted on November 26, 1949 and came into effect on January 26, 1950. The Constitution is the longest constitution in the world, comprising 448 articles in 22 parts, 12 schedules and 117 amendments.

The Constitution of India provides for a parliamentary system of government and guarantees certain fundamental rights to all citizens. It gives the Prime Minister the authority to lead the government and the Cabinet. The President is the head of state, but his/her role is largely ceremonial.

The Constitution also establishes an independent judiciary, which is headed by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has the power to strike down laws that are inconsistent with the Constitution.

The Constitution of India represents the will of the people and is the supreme law of the land. It is the basis for the government’s authority and the rights of citizens. The Constitution is a living document that can be amended through a process of constitutional amendment.
