IIT Guwahati Director T G Sitharam appointed as new AICTE president
IIT Guwahati Director T G Sitharam will take over from UGC president Jagadesh Kumar, who was holding interim charge of the AICTE president post after Anil Sahasrabuddhe was released from his duties on September 1, 2021, upon turning 65 times old.
IIT Guwahati Director T G Sitharam has been appointed president of the All India Council for Technical Education( AICTE).
According to a government announcement dated November 17, he’ll serve as the Council head for three times or before he turns 65 times old, whichever is before. The Indian Express has learned that AICTE vice speaker M P Poonia and a professor from IIT Kanpur were among the other frontal runners for the job.

His appointment comes at a time when the Ministry of Education is putting final traces to a Bill that intends to combine the AICTE and the University subventions Commission into a super controller called the Advanced Education Commission of India.
A new vacancy at IIT Guwahati is created after Sitharam’s appointment in AICTE , since his term as director was only set to expire in July 2024.
Sitharam was a professor in the department of civil engineering at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore before he joined as Director of IIT Guwahati, he was a president professor in the area of Energy and Mechanical lores at IISc. His exploration interests include gemstone mechanics and gemstone engineering, geotechnical earthquake engineering and earth heads and trailing ponds.
