AICTE Revises Academic Calendar For 2024-25 Session
AICTE : The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has updated the academic calendar for the 2024-25 session. Under the revised schedule, the final date for first-year students to be admitted against vacancies has been extended to October 23. Additionally, the commencement date for classes for first-year students in technical courses has also been changed to October 23.
This adjustment comes in response to a Supreme Court ruling that permitted an extension of the entrance deadline for technical colleges to October 23, which was previously set for September 15.
However, this extension does not apply to independent institutions offering Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and Post Graduate Certificate in Management (PGCM) programs. These colleges are required to adhere to their original admissions schedules, which remain unchanged.
Additionally, the AICTE has extended the deadline for lateral admissions into the second year of technical programs to October 23, moving it from the previously set date of September 15. The updated academic schedule for the 2024-25 session is available on the official AICTE website at aicte-india.org.
Also, according to the latest notification, the educational institutes do not require any prior approval or NOC from AICTE for offering Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Postgraduate diploma programmes under the disciplines of Management, Computer Application and Travel and Tourism in ODL and/or online mode.
The official notification reads, “The Commission considered the communication received from AICTE stating that as per Hon’ble Supreme Court Judgement in Bharathidasan University and Another Vs. All India Council for Technical Education and Others (2001) 8 SCC 676, it is not mandatory for the State/Private Universities to take AICTE approval to run Technical programmes.”
The AICTE has also maintained its stand on the unapproved education institutions offering technical programmes. Institutions that operate without proper Council approval or in unapproved locations will be labelled as “unapproved” and may be closed or subject to penalties.
