Institutes of Technology (IITs)
The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) at Delhi and Bombay are revamping their undergraduate (UG) class in order to better meet the needs of students and the industry. The two IITs are among the premier engineering institutes in the country and their UG programs are highly sought after. The IITs have been facing criticism in recent years for their focus on rote learning and lack of emphasis on practical skills.
In order to address these concerns, the two IITs are introducing a number of changes in their UG programs. Some of the major changes include an increased emphasis on research, greater flexibility in course selection, and the introduction of new courses such as machine learning and data science. The IITs are also introducing a new semester system which will give students more time to complete their projects and internships. The changes being introduced at IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay are in line with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
