West Bengal Govt Introduces Centralised Online System for Admission

West Bengal Govt: As per the official notification, the West Bengal government has introduced a centralized online system for admission to undergraduate courses across all state-run, aided, or affiliated colleges and universities. This system will be implemented from the current academic session, i.e., 2023-24.

The new centralized online system in West Bengal will provide students with a single-window platform for selecting their preferred colleges. This system aims to eliminate the need for students to pay admission fees multiple times across various institutions in order to reserve seats.

According to the official notification, the council responsible for the centralized online admission system in West Bengal will transfer the admission fees to the respective educational institutions within one month from the date of completion of the admission process. While the new centralized online admission system will cover most state-run, aided, or affiliated colleges and universities, the official notification stated that the Higher Education Department may choose to exclude any course or institution from the system at its discretion.

The West Bengal government has implemented this centralized system in response to the difficulties faced by students who previously had to apply to various colleges and universities separately, registering themselves on different online portals and paying multiple application fees.

The official notification also mentioned that students previously had to block seats by taking admission in a specific college within a given time frame and then applying to other institutions where admissions opened later. This process resulted in students paying multiple admission fees to various colleges and facing difficulties in receiving refunds from institutions where they did not ultimately take admission. The new centralized admission system aims to simplify the process and make it more convenient for students.

The official notification emphasized the need for uniformity and transparency in the admission system of colleges and universities under the administrative control of the Higher Education Department. The aim of the new centralized admission system is to provide every student with an equal opportunity to select the course they wish to study.
