Uttar Pradesh Govt to Open 10 New Sanskrit Schools

Uttar Pradesh Govt: According to officials from the education department of Uttar Pradesh, the state government plans to establish 10 new government Sanskrit secondary schools to promote Sanskrit education. The proposed schools will be set up in 10 districts including Varanasi, Rae Bareli, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Moradabad, Shamli, Jalaun, Etah, Amethi, and Hardoi. Currently, only one government Sanskrit secondary and one government Sanskrit degree college exist in the state, with all other institutions being privately run.

Establishing new intermediate-level Sanskrit schools is a top priority for Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister, Yogi Adityanath. The state directorate of education officials has requested funding for the construction of these new schools from the state government after receiving initial approval.

The 2023-24 budget allocated INR 100 crore for the creation of assets for Sanskrit schools. Additionally, the government plans to open government Sanskrit secondary schools in five districts, including Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, and Mathura, which are key religious centers.

On March 22, the principal secretary, Deepak Kumar, wrote a letter to the district magistrates of these five districts requesting information about the availability of three acres of land for each proposed new college’s construction. The state government also allocated INR 10 crore for scholarships for students studying Sanskrit in the 2023-24 budget.

Previously, Sanskrit students received a scholarship budget of INR 2 lakh in the state. Recently, the secondary education department proposed a scholarship grant of INR 131 crore to all students studying Sanskrit from school to college levels in government-run, unaided, and self-financed Sanskrit schools and colleges across Uttar Pradesh.
