UGC : The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued guidelines for admission and creation of supernumerary seats for international students in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Indian higher educational institutes (HEIs).
The UGC’s goal is to make it easier for international students to get into Indian higher education institutions by streamlining and simplifying the admissions process. This will make the country’s education system more appealing to international students and make India their top choice.
HEIs have been conceded consent to lay out up to 25 percent extra seats for worldwide understudies, surpassing their endorsed enrolment quantities for both undergrad and postgraduate projects. This choice rests with the individual organizations, who should comply to rules and guidelines set out by administrative bodies, considering variables like foundation, staff, and different necessities.
Nonetheless, according to the UGC official notification, these 25% exaggerated seats assigned for worldwide understudies don’t envelop those taking part in return projects or those conceded through Update of Figuring out (MoU) arrangements between foundations or between the Public authority of India and different countries.
These 25% seats must be distributed among all academic departments, schools, centers, or other academic units within higher education institutions. In both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programs, the UGC emphasizes that only international students should be granted supernumerary seats. Assuming any of these seats stay unfilled, they ought not be dispensed to some other applicant with the exception of a worldwide understudy.
The respective statutory bodies will govern supernumerary seats in professional and technical institutes, whereas the UGC’s regulations will govern PhD program seats.
