UGC extends deadline for claiming PhD, doctoral fellowship pending dues to October 8

UGC : The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced an extension of the deadline for claiming arrears of post-doctoral and doctoral fellowships. As per the official notice, UGC has extended the deadline for doctoral and post-doctoral students for claiming pending dues till October 8.

The notice stated that numerous appeals requesting an extension of the deadline for claiming pending dues had been submitted to the commission. The UGC has decided to extend the deadline for submission until October 8, 2024 in response to these representations. The authority notice read, “UGC has gotten a few portrayals to expand the last date for guaranteeing forthcoming contribution. As a result, it has been decided to extend the deadline until October 8, 2024.”

Fellows and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are urged to request their pending dues, which include fellowship amounts, a house rent allowance, and admissible contingency funds through August 2024. Before the deadline, these claims should be submitted through the Scholarship Fellowship Management Portal (SFMP). According to the UGC notice, “Stakeholders (HEIs and Fellows) are requested to claim their pending dues, fellowship, house rent allowance/contingency admissible up to August 2024, by 8th October 2024.”

The central government launched a single fellowship portal for PhD and postdoctoral students in March 2024. Applications for the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the Indian Council of Medical Research, and the UGC can be found on the portal. The portal’s eligibility calculator is a standout feature because it lets candidates determine whether or not they are eligible for various fellowship programs. The portal, according to the website, aims to fill in the information gap for students by bringing together information on multiple fellowship program eligibility requirements and application procedures.
