TOEFL iBT now Accepted Under Canada’s SDS Scheme

TOEFL iBT: ETS made an announcement on Monday regarding the approval of its TOEFL iBT exam by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for implementation in Canada’s Student Direct Stream (SDS).

ETS has announced that the TOEFL iBT exam has been approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for integration into Canada’s Student Direct Stream (SDS). SDS is a program designed to expedite the study permit processing for international students interested in studying in Canada.

This approval means that the application process for students taking the TOEFL iBT will be accelerated, as most SDS applications are now processed within 20 calendar days, according to ETS. Starting from August 10, 2023, students can include their TOEFL iBT scores as part of their SDS application.

Rohit Sharma, Senior Vice President of Global Higher Education and Workskills at ETS, expressed excitement about the new opportunities this approval will bring to students aspiring to study in one of the world’s most sought-after study abroad destinations.

He highlighted that the addition of TOEFL will benefit a significant number of students who choose the SDS route each year. Additionally, educational institutions can now access a broader pool of applicants who can demonstrate their English-language proficiency through this premier test.

Previously, only the English-language testing option was authorized for the SDS route. For more information, interested individuals can visit www.etsindia.org/country-toefl/canada/.
