Scholarships for madrasa students in grades 1 through 8 have been ended by the central government.
The central government has stopped awarding scholarships to madrasa students in grades 1 through 8. Students in Madrasas in Classes 1 through 5 received a scholarship of Rs. 1,000, and students in Classes 6 through 8 received scholarships based on their courses.
This scholarship was awarded to 4 to 5 lakh children from approximately 16558 madrassas in the previous year.
The scholarship had already been halted by the state government. However, the central government has now also stopped it.
In these madrasas, midday meals and books are provided for free.
Under the Right to Education Act, the government provides free education to students in grades one through eight. The scholarship has also been terminated because students receive additional essential items.
The government noted that because of this, scholarships would only be awarded to students in Classes 9 and 10, and only their applications should be sent.
