Minority students can get a scholarship for pre-matric: The Pre Matric Scholarship Scheme of the Ministry of Minority Affairs will now only verify applications for classes 9 and 10, not for classes 1 through 8.
The Ministry of Minority Affairs will no longer offer the government’s pre-matric scholarship to minority community students enrolled in Classes 1 through 8; instead, from 2022 to 2023, only students enrolled in Classes 9 and 10 will be eligible for this scholarship.

This is being done in accordance with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment’s pre-matric scholarship program, according to a notice on the National Scholarship Portal.

“The Right to Education (RTE) Act of 2009 mandates that every child receive free and compulsory elementary education (grades I through X). Appropriately, only understudies are participating in classes 9 and 10 are covered under the Pre-Matric Scholarship of the Service of Civil rights and Strengthening and Service of Ancestral Issues. The notice stated that the Pre Matric Scholarship Scheme of the Ministry of Minority Affairs would also only cover classes 9 and 10 starting in 2022-23. As a result, under the Ministry of Minority Affairs’ Pre Matric Scholarship Scheme, only applications for classes 9 and 10 may be verified by the Institute Nodal Officer (INO), District Nodal Officer (DNO), or State Nodal Officer (SNO).

In March of this year, the then-Minister of Minority Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, made the following statement in Parliament: “After 2014-15, 5.20 crore scholarships were distributed throughout the country to minority students, compared to 3.03 crore scholarships before 2014-15.”

According to Naqvi, the Center received 3,36,11,677 pre-matric scholarships from Muslim students, 53,13,905 from Christian students, 35,90,880 from Sikh students, 12,98,637 from Buddhist students, and 4,58,665 from Jain students between 2014-15 and 2021-22 at a cost of Rs 9057.08 crore.

For the academic year 2022-23, the Ministry had allocated Rs. 1,425 crore to minority students for pre-matric scholarships

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board and the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind issued sharp statements in response to the government’s announcement that minority students only in Classes 9 and 10 would be eligible for the pre-matric scholarship.
