SCERT launches study to assess students on FLN skills under “Nipun Bharat Mission”

Under the Nipun Bharat Mission, the Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) recently launched subject-specific study surveys for students in classes II through V. Tests based on predetermined parameters of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) skills will be administered to each student individually.

After the COVID outbreak, a long list of FLN assessment and remediation principles were implemented in school education by various authorities. However, teachers and experts have emphasized the need for an integrated approach because individual scales have been ineffective due to their lack of accuracy and uniformity, in addition to depriving teachers of the time they need to teach for the desired results.

In the past six to nine months, a number of initiatives have been launched in Maharashtra, not only from the state or SCERT but also at the local level. It began with the national National Achievement Survey (NAS); In addition, a similar initiative was launched by Maharashtra’s office of the education commissioner under Setu Abhyakram (Bridge Course) shortly after the beginning of the academic year in June of this year to fill the learning gap brought on by the pandemic-induced lockdown

“Projects with various names and the same goal are proposed by nearly every Zilla Parishad (ZP) at the village level or civic bodies in urban areas. While SCERT’s task began last week, soon, one more arrangement of tests is supposed to begin under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan,” said an instructor, adding that each venture with another arrangement of boundaries will be led exclusively for educators. was causing confusion for the student and the parent alone.

“The fact cannot be denied that efforts were required toward raising the students’ learning levels,” said a teacher from a ZP school in rural Maharashtra. However, it proved to be pointless without an integrated strategy. Is.”

Another teacher in the district panchayat made the observation that each of these initiatives is likely to report on different metrics, some of which may not be identical. As a teacher, I am aware of the students’ levels of education. Teachers must rectify the situation before introducing a new set of parameters, but a third-party assessment can provide an accurate picture. The instructor stated, “Time should be given.”
