Republic Day 2023: DU VC lauds govt’s step to provide free food

Yogesh Singh, vice-chancellor of the University of Delhi, praised the Indian government’s decision to provide free food grains to 81.35 crore people as a “commendable step” today. On the occasion of the 74th Republic Day in 2023, the DU VC was giving a speech to the crowd after presenting the “Tiranga” national flag on the DU campus.

He also paid tribute to all the national heroes who gave their lives for the country on this occasion. Singh addressed the gathering, stating: According to Article 47 of the Indian Constitution, the government should prioritize projects like raising people’s standard of living, increasing food’s nutritional value, and improving primary health. In order to ensure that no one in the nation goes to bed hungry, the Indian government provides free food to poor families.

Yogesh Singh stated that academia will also need to play a role in this direction, expressing appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to transform the nation into a developed nation by 2047. He stated that India would become a developed nation with a growth rate of 10% over the next 25 years.

He added, “The agriculture, industrial, and service sectors must collaborate to achieve the same.” Agriculture must now adapt to technological advancements. Instead of importing technology, it should include technology made in India. These efforts are being coordinated politically by governments, but the academic community will also need to contribute.

The National Education Policy 2020 contains numerous such provisions, the DU VC stated. The NCC cadets also put on a parade at the beginning of the program. On this particular occasion, numerous officers, teachers, students, and staff, as well as Proctor Rajni Abbi, Registrar Vikas Gupta, Director of the South Delhi Campus Prakash Singh, Dean of Colleges Balaram Pani, and Proctor Rajni Abbi, were in attendance.
