Rabindranath Tagore’s Santiniketan added to UNESCO World Heritage List
Santiniketan: Santiniketan, the famed place in West Bengal where poet Rabindranath Tagore built Visva-Bharati over a century ago, has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The world body made the declaration in a post on ‘X’ on Sunday. ” New addition to the #WorldHeritageList maintained by @UNESCO: India’s Santiniketan Congratulations!” It went live.
India had been taking a stab at long to get an UNESCO tag for this social site situated in Birbhum region. A couple of months prior, the milestone site was suggested for consideration in the UNESCO World Legacy Rundown by global warning body ICOMOS.
In the nineteenth hundred years, Devendranath Tagore bought the land. He constructed a house in the mid 1860s and named it Santiniketan; the name later came to signify the whole region.
