To be eligible for the exam, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in Arts or Commerce, or a Shastri (Sanskrit) degree from a recognized university, along with two school subjects from a recognized institution, achieving a minimum of 50 per cent marks in aggregate (or 45 per cent for SC/ST/PwD/SEBC candidates).

Alternatively, candidates may also qualify with a four-year integrated B.A. B.Ed. degree from any NCTE-recognized institution, which includes two school subjects as defined in the accompanying proviso, with a minimum of 50 per cent marks in aggregate (or 45 per cent for SC/ST/PWD/SEBC candidates).
