NIRF Rankings 2023: The engineering category of the NIRF Rankings 2023, which was published on Monday, saw the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras claim the top spot.
In continuation of last year’s results, IIT Madras has once again secured the top position in the NIRF Rankings 2023 for the engineering category. Following closely behind are IIT Delhi in second place and IIT Bombay in third.
IIT Kanpur and IIT Guwahati have maintained their respective positions from last year, holding the fourth and seventh ranks. IIT Roorkee has claimed the fifth spot, while IIT Kharagpur has secured the sixth position. This year, Jadavpur University has moved up one position and now ranks among the top ten institutions.
However, there have been a few shifts in rankings. National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, which held the tenth position in 2022, has slipped to eleventh place this year. Similarly, National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli has also experienced a decline in rank, moving from eighth place last year to ninth place this year.
Commenting on the NIRF India Rankings 2023, Prof P.V. Rao, Dean, Planning, and Head of the Rankings Cell at IIT Delhi, expressed his views:
“IIT Delhi has consistently excelled in the NIRF rankings. We have maintained the second position in the Engineering category for the past five years. This year, we have improved our overall ranking from fourth to third. Our research endeavors have significantly contributed to our position, and we are among the top three institutes in the research category.
The faculty and researchers at IIT Delhi have made remarkable contributions to research, which have played a vital role in our rankings. We have also prioritized innovative teaching methodologies and created a research ecosystem that enables both faculty and students to excel in their pursuits. The presence of a thriving start-up and innovative culture on our campus gives our students a competitive edge.”
