MP HC Issues Notices to Centre for Army Over Agniveer Petition

MP HC: The Madhya Pradesh High Court has sent legal notices to both the Army and the Union government in response to a petition requesting the disclosure of the selection criteria and test marks for Agniveer candidates.

According to their lawyer, advocate NS Ruprah, nine individuals who participated in the Agniveer recruitment process in Madhya Pradesh last year, from September 15 to 25 for physical tests and November 13 for written tests, have filed the petition. However, they were unsuccessful in their attempts to become Agniveers.

The petition filed by the nine individuals is requesting the disclosure of various pieces of information related to the Agniveer recruitment process, including the selection criteria, cut-off marks, and marks obtained in both the physical and written tests. Additionally, they are seeking the names of all the individuals who were selected as Agniveer (General Duty) and Agniveer (Tradesmen) during the recruitment drive, the results of which were announced on November 26.

According to advocate NS Ruprah, the nine petitioners had hoped to pass the tests and become Agniveers. However, since they were unsuccessful in their attempts, they have turned to the High Court for assistance. Specifically, they are seeking a court order directing the respondents to disclose their OMR sheets and marks from the written tests.

As per advocate NS Ruprah, the respondents named in the petition are the Defence Secretary of the Union government and the Recruitment Officer Headquarters Recruiting Zone (MP & CG) of the Indian Army, located in Jabalpur. Justice Vishal Dhagat, who presides over a single bench of the High Court, has issued the notices. The respondents have until the week commencing from May 1 to respond.
