Kerala CM inaugurates Super Speciality Block at Kozhikode Medical College

At a ceremony held here on Saturday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan unveiled the brand-new Surgical Super Specialty Block of Kozhikode Medical College. Through video conferencing, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandavya presided over the event. Under Phase III of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, the new block was built. The hospital, which opened in 1957, provides tertiary healthcare to seven neighboring districts.

The 2.57 lakh square foot super specialty building has a project cost of Rs 195.93 crore and is located within 273 acres of a college campus. The Central Government contributed Rs 120 crore, and the State Government contributed Rs 75.93 crore.

The seven-story hospital has 500 beds, including 190 ICU beds, 19 modular operating theatres, C-Arm, MRI, CT scan, CSSD, and facilities for multiple organ transplants. Five Surgical Super Specialty Departments, Emergency Medicine, and Anaesthesia will now have their own facilities thanks to this.

The new building will house departments like Neurosurgery, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Urology & Renal Transplantation Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesiology, and Accident and Emergency.
