J&K: Assessment and Evaluation Scheme to take effect from next session
An official spokesperson stated on Saturday that the administration of Jammu and Kashmir has decided to implement the Student Assessment and Evaluation Scheme (SAES) beginning with the upcoming academic year. According to the spokesperson, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) will be required by the SAES to develop uniform question papers for all government and government-recognized schools. According to him, the decision marks a significant shift that will end the conventional examination system.
The purpose of assessment will shift from one that is summative and primarily tests skills for rote memorization to one that is more regular and formative, is more competency-based, supports students’ learning and development, and tests higher-order skills like analysis, critical thinking, and conceptual clarity, as outlined in the examination reforms for NEP-2020.
The spokesperson stated that instead of a grade sheet, the students would receive a multi-dimensional report card or holistic progress card that would detail each learner’s individuality and progress. He claimed that an artificial intelligence-aided software would provide a comprehensive view of a student’s progress and assist him in selecting the best career path.
