Indian Institutes of Technology( IITs) have decided to reinstate the pre-pandemic Class 12 performance criterion for admissions coming time.
In 2020, IITs introduced a relaxation regarding campaigners ’ performance in board examinations given the query brought about by the coronavirus epidemic. The lockdown had forced several public and state boards to abandon their Class 12 academy- leaving examinations and replacing them with alternate evaluation schemes.
According to the Joint Entrance Examination( Advanced) information folder from 2020, the only demand related to Class 12( or original) performance was that campaigners must pass the board test in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, a language, and another subject apart from these four. This continued for another two years until JEE( Advanced) 2022.
IITs have now inclusively decided to do down with the relaxation of admission conditions regarding Class 12 board test performance given the return to normality in academic life.
Before the epidemic, general order campaigners with qualifying rank in JEE( Advanced) needed to have either scored at least 75 percent in Class 12 or figured in the top 20 percentile of their board results to secure a seat at an IIT.
Scheduled Caste( SC) and Scheduled Tribe( ST) campaigners were needed to have either scored at least 65 percent or fulfilled the top 20 percentile demand. In other words, earlier indeed an emotional rank in the JEE( Advanced) didn’t guarantee admission unless the seeker had also met the board marks criterion.
JEE( Advanced) determines admission to IITs. Indeed as campaigners who are eligible to appear for JEE( Advanced) are short-listed grounded on their performance in the JEE( Main), Class 12 board test performance has been one of the qualifying criteria.
Board examinations were canceled in nearly all countries and centrally in one of the times, and in the other two times, the examinations had different relaxations to grease scholars, considering online literacy and other limitations. As normality has returned in board examinations and seminaries started covering the full syllabus again, the qualifying criterion in JEE( Advanced) regarding board marks is going to go back to its original format.
Mohit Sardana, the director of Mumbai FIITJEE, a guiding institute for JEE medication, said the decision was anticipated with the return to normality.
The IITs ’ decision comes at a time when as numerous as 90 universities in the country admitted scholars to undergraduate programs grounded on the new Central University Entrance Test( CUET). The maturity of central universities this time only needed scholars to have passed their board examinations, and admissions were done grounded on their CUET score.
