IISER Bhopal Team Develops New Method for Separating Toxic Molecules from Water

IISER Bhopal Team: A team of researchers from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal has introduced a new technique for creating “free-standing crystalline nanoporous organic films.” These films have the ability to extract hazardous organic micropollutants from water, thereby acting as a filtration medium for cleaning polluted water sources.

According to a press statement from IISER Bhopal, the findings of the study have been published in the journal Angewandte Chemie. Dr. Abhijit Patra, the lead researcher and associate professor of Chemistry, along with his research scholars Arkaprabha Giri, G. Shreeraj, and Tapas Kumar Dutta, have co-authored the paper.

Dr. Abhijit Patra, who is associated with IISER Bhopal, has elaborated on the technical aspects of their research work. He explained that their findings have introduced a new approach to the structural conversion of two distinct crystalline entities with different dimensionalities. This approach employs dynamic covalent chemistry (DCC) at the confined interface under normal ambient conditions.

The team of researchers is optimistic that their work will encourage further investigations in the area of dynamic covalent chemistry and COFs. They believe that this research will help to tackle the urgent challenges of sustainable development, particularly in the domain of water pollution.
