Happy Birthday Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji: Atal Bihari Vajpayee was an Indian politician and statesman who served as the Prime Minister of India on three separate occasions. He was a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and was closely associated with the Jan Sangh, a political party that was the predecessor to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Vajpayee’s political career began in the 1940s, when he became actively involved in the Indian independence movement. After India gained independence in 1947, he joined the Jan Sangh and quickly rose through the ranks of the party. He was elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament, in 1957 and served as a member of parliament for over four decades.
Vajpayee was a strong believer in parliamentary democracy and worked towards strengthening democratic institutions in India. He was a skilled orator and was known for his ability to connect with the common man. He was also a prolific writer and contributed articles to various newspapers and magazines.
In 1977, the Jan Sangh merged with several other parties to form the Janata Party, which came to power after defeating the Congress Party in the general elections that year. Vajpayee was appointed as the Minister of External Affairs in the government led by Prime Minister Morarji Desai. He served in this role for two years before the Janata Party government was voted out of power.
Vajpayee returned to power in 1996, when the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) came to power after winning a majority in the general elections. He served as the Prime Minister of India for 13 months, but his government fell after losing a confidence vote in the parliament.
Vajpayee returned to power again in 1998, when the NDA won a majority in the general elections. He served as the Prime Minister of India for a full five-year term, becoming the first non-Congress Prime Minister to do so. During his tenure, he focused on economic reforms, foreign policy, and national security. He was also instrumental in conducting India’s nuclear tests in 1998, which helped to establish India as a nuclear-armed nation.
Vajpayee was a strong supporter of regional and international cooperation and played a key role in establishing the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). He was also a passionate advocate for the rights of women and worked towards increasing their participation in the political process.
Vajpayee was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, in 2015 for his contributions to public service. He passed away in 2018 at the age of 93.
