Get Into IIT Madras Without JEE Advanced: New Admission Pathway For Olympiad Winners

IIT Madras : In a groundbreaking move, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has launched a new admission pathway for undergraduate programs, offering students an opportunity to gain admission without taking the rigorous JEE Advanced exam. This initiative, aimed at recognizing exceptional talent in science, is set to begin for the academic year 2025-2026. Under this new system, students who excel in National and International Olympiads will be eligible for admission to IIT Madras through the Science Olympiad Excellence (ScOpE) scheme.

What Is ScOpE Admission In IIT Madras?

The ScOpE pathway, similar to the admissions through Sports and Fine Arts Excellence, will allow a select few to secure a seat based on their exceptional achievements in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Informatics, and Biology. Each program will have two supernumerary seats, with one seat exclusively reserved for women candidates.

IIT Madras Admission Without JEE Advance: Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria to apply for the ScOpE pathway:

Nationality: Candidates must be Indian nationals or OCI/PIO candidates who received their OCI/PIO card before March 4, 2021.

Olympiad Participation: Candidates must have participated in one of the prestigious training camps for Olympiads organized by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) or the Indian Association for Research in Computer Science (IARCS) in the last four years.

Class 12 Completion: The candidate must have completed Class 12 (or equivalent) or be due to do so in the year of admission.

In terms of academic qualifications, the eligibility criteria for passing Class 12 and other basic requirements remain the same as those for the JEE Advanced candidates.

Admission Process and ScOpE Rank List

Admission under the ScOpE scheme will not go through the usual Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) portal. Instead, applicants must apply via a separate IIT Madras portal dedicated solely to ScOpE admissions. The admission allotment will be based on the ScOpE Rank List (SRL), determined by candidates’ performance in the Olympiad exams.
