Delhi University To Start Admissions At Veer Savarkar College This Year

Delhi University : Delhi University (DU) will begin admissions at Veer Savarkar College in Roshanpura, Najafgarh, from this academic session, marking a significant step in the university’s expansion after nearly three decades.

Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh made the announcement during DU’s 92nd annual court meeting on Friday, an official statement by the varsity said.

Located just five minutes from DU’s West Campus, the newly built Veer Savarkar College has a built-up area of 18,816.56 square metres and has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 140 crore.

The college has 24 classrooms, eight tutorial rooms, 40 faculty rooms, department libraries, conference rooms and a canteen.

The new college is part of DU’s broader expansion efforts to meet the increasing demand for higher education in Delhi, the statement said.

In addition to Veer Savarkar College, two new campuses are being developed — the East Campus in Surajmal Vihar and the West Campus in Dwarka Sector 22, it added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for these campuses on January 3, 2025. The expansion aims to ease pressure on existing colleges and provide students with better access to DU’s academic resources.

As per the statement, for the 2024-25 academic session, DU received 2,46,194 applications for 79 undergraduate programmes across 69 colleges. The total number of course preferences submitted was 1,72,18,187 and 70,422 students were successfully admitted.

DU is also introducing several new academic programmes, including MTech in Computer Science, BA (Hons) in Russian, DM in Geriatric Mental Health, DM in Pulmonary Medicine and MSc Psychiatry (Mental Health).

Skill-based education is gaining traction among DU students, with “Personality Development and Communication” emerging as the most popular skill enhancement course (SEC) chosen by 38,642 students, it reads.

Other top courses include “Political Leadership and Communication” (36,193 students), “Digital Marketing” (35,370 students) and “Communication in Everyday Life” (31,185 students).

Among value-added courses, “Digital Empowerment” attracted the highest number of students (69,457), followed by “Financial Literacy” (54,401) and “Constitutional Values and the Art of Being Happy” (37,244).
