Delhi University organises session on meditation and mental health

A special session on meditation and mental health was held at Delhi University on Friday. The main speaker, Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, said that getting a degree and a job should not be the goal of life; rather, one should look at life from a broader perspective. He said that people tend to take their own lives when they don’t have a holistic view of life.

Speaking as a special guest at the event, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that “we start thinking about becoming something, then our power decreases” when we don’t do something. Delhi College Bad habit Chancellor Yogesh Singh managed the program. “Getting a degree and getting a job should not be the goal of life, but one should look at life from a wider perspective,” Ravi Shankar said in his address to the gathering.

When people lack a broad perspective on life, they are more likely to commit suicide.” “The door of depression opens when we start thinking only about ourselves and are cut off from everyone,” he stated. He stated that one suicide occurs every forty seconds. In the US, 400 doctors took their own lives last year.

This is as a result of our long absence from mental health awareness. Not only are the youth of India the future of India but also of the world. Indian scientists make up 34% of NASA scientists in the United States, he stated. Manohar Lal Khattar, the chief minister of Haryana and a graduate of Delhi University, once said, “There is no tension when we think that something must be done; rather, tension occurs when we start thinking what to become.” I lived in Delhi from 1972 to 1980, and only there did my life take on the purpose of serving my country.

I never felt stressed after becoming an RSS pracharak in 1980,” he added. The vice chancellor gave Khattar his degree as well. Khattar claimed that he graduated from Delhi University in 1972 as a student in the School of Open Learning (SOL).
