Conflict has disrupted farming, markets, livelihoods and humanitarian access, leaving millions dependent on emergency assistance. Years of conflict and economic disruption have weakened food systems and reduced people&#8217;s ability to secure basic necessities. In Nigeria, food insecurity is particularly severe in parts of the northeast, including Borno State, where some populations could reach catastrophic levels. Although conditions improved somewhat following the October 2025 ceasefire, the humanitarian situation remains fragile. These countries face different combinations of conflict, displacement, economic stress, climate variability, drought, erratic weather and limited humanitarian resources. Conflict can destroy agricultural assets, displace communities, interrupt trade routes, restrict humanitarian access and make food markets unstable. Droughts, floods and irregular rainfall can damage crops and livestock, while high food prices reduce people&#8217;s purchasing power. These factors can rapidly transform an already fragile food system into a humanitarian emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Humanitarian_Funding_Shortfalls\"><\/span>Humanitarian Funding Shortfalls<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report also highlights a serious shortage of humanitarian funding. Funding for food assistance, emergency agricultural support and nutrition in food crises declined by an estimated <strong>59% between 2022 and 2025<\/strong>.
