The initiative aims to strengthen the entire coffee value chain in the northeastern state and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for farmers and rural communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mission reflects the government\u2019s larger vision of promoting economic development in Northeast India through agriculture, branding, exports, tourism, and entrepreneurship. Nagaland\u2019s unique climatic conditions make it suitable for producing premium Arabica and Robusta coffee varieties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Objectives_of_the_%E2%80%9CCoffees_of_Nagaland%E2%80%9D_Mission\"><\/span>Objectives of the \u201cCoffees of Nagaland\u201d Mission<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The primary goal of the mission is to establish Nagaland as a premium single-origin coffee-producing region. The project adopts a cluster-based approach and focuses on plantation development, post-harvest processing, branding, traceability, exports, tourism, and skill development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative also aims to improve farmers\u2019 incomes by integrating them into the complete coffee value chain rather than limiting them only to cultivation activities. Through branding and market access, the government hopes to ensure better price realization for coffee growers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Pilot_Coffee_Clusters_in_Nagaland\"><\/span>Pilot Coffee Clusters in Nagaland<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the first phase of the mission, two pilot clusters have been identified:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tuophema village in Kohima district for Arabica coffee cultivation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ghotovi village in Niuland district for Robusta coffee cultivation<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>These clusters will serve as model coffee development centres where modern cultivation techniques, processing facilities, and tourism activities will be promoted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cluster-based model is expected to help small farmers collectively benefit from shared infrastructure, technical expertise, and branding initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Role_of_the_Government_and_Stakeholders\"><\/span>Role of the Government and Stakeholders<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking during the launch event, Scindia described the project as a \u201cWhole of India\u201d approach that brings together governments, farmers, entrepreneurs, exporters, processors, and branding experts onto one common platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) is playing a major role in implementing the mission. Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also praised the initiative and called it a milestone for agricultural diversification and rural development in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project further seeks to integrate organic certification, GI tagging, and digital traceability to improve access to premium global coffee markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Coffee_Tourism_and_Branding_Strategy\"><\/span>Coffee Tourism and Branding Strategy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>An important component of the mission is the development of the \u201cBrand North East \u2013 Coffees of Nagaland.\u201d The government plans to promote the coffee brand through media campaigns, trade fairs, and export promotion activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mission will also promote coffee tourism in Nagaland.
