The projects, collectively worth <strong>\u20b9526 crore<\/strong>, were launched in Guwahati and other key locations along the <strong>Brahmaputra River<\/strong>. These initiatives aim to boost tourism, enhance connectivity, support employment generation, and transform the northeastern region\u2019s economic landscape by leveraging the inland waterways as modern transport corridors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Major_Waterways_Projects_Launched\"><\/span><strong>Major Waterways Projects Launched<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the <em>Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI)<\/em>, four major projects were initiated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An <strong>elevated road corridor<\/strong> connecting <em>Pandu Port to National Highway-27<\/em> with an investment of \u20b9180 crore.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cruise terminals<\/strong> at <em>Biswanath Ghat<\/em> and <em>Neamati<\/em> with foundation stones laid to promote river cruise tourism.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>Regional Centre of Excellence (RCoE)<\/strong> at <em>Bogibeel, Dibrugarh<\/em>, with Bhoomi Pujan performed, backed by \u20b9188 crore investment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Combined, these projects will improve logistics, streamline cargo movement, and create new avenues for tourism and business activities along the waterways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Enhancing_Connectivity_and_Logistics\"><\/span><strong>Enhancing Connectivity and Logistics<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>elevated road corridor from Pandu Port to NH\u201127<\/strong> solves the last-mile connectivity issue for cargo and passenger transport, reducing congestion and ensuring smoother access to the national highway network. This infrastructure upgrade will significantly reduce logistics costs, facilitate faster movement of goods, and support trade growth in Assam and the northeastern states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Boosting_Tourism_and_Local_Economy\"><\/span><strong>Boosting Tourism and Local Economy<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new <strong>cruise terminals at Biswanath Ghat and Neamati<\/strong> are designed to support river cruise operations on the <em>Brahmaputra River (NW\u20112)<\/em>. These terminals will not only enhance passenger amenities but also promote river-based tourism, opening new markets for local artisans, hotel owners, boatmen, and small businesses. Increased tourism activity is expected to significantly contribute to local economic development and employment generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Skill_Development_Through_RCoE_at_Bogibeel\"><\/span><strong>Skill Development Through RCoE at Bogibeel<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Regional Centre of Excellence (RCoE)<\/strong> in Dibrugarh will serve as a premier training hub for inland waterways operations, navigation, and maritime logistics. These projects align with India\u2019s <em>Act East Policy<\/em>, strengthening connectivity between Assam and Southeast Asia while contributing to sustainable economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr
