The agreements include the procurement of <strong>Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Mk-III helicopters<\/strong> and <strong>Vertical Launch (VL) Shtil surface-to-air missiles<\/strong>. These contracts were finalized on <strong>3 March 2026 in New Delhi<\/strong> in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This decision highlights India\u2019s ongoing efforts to modernize its armed forces and enhance operational readiness in maritime regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Contract_for_ALH_Mk-III_Helicopters\"><\/span><strong>Contract for ALH Mk-III Helicopters<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A major portion of the deal involves the procurement of <strong>six ALH Mk-III (Maritime Role) helicopters<\/strong> for the Indian Coast Guard. The contract worth approximately <strong>\u20b92,901 crore<\/strong> has been awarded to <strong>Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)<\/strong>, an Indian public sector aerospace and defence company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These helicopters are twin-engine platforms designed for maritime operations such as <strong>search and rescue, coastal surveillance, medical evacuation, and disaster response<\/strong>. The helicopters will also include operational role equipment, engineering support packages, and logistics support to ensure long-term operational efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ALH Mk-III is an upgraded version of the Dhruv helicopter platform developed in India, reflecting the government\u2019s commitment to <strong>self-reliance in defence manufacturing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Acquisition_of_VL-Shtil_Missile_Systems\"><\/span><strong>Acquisition of VL-Shtil Missile Systems<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second part of the defence agreement focuses on strengthening the <strong>Indian Navy\u2019s air defence capabilities<\/strong>. Under this contract, India will acquire <strong>VL-Shtil surface-to-air missile systems<\/strong>, which are designed to intercept aerial threats such as enemy aircraft and incoming missiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The contract for the missiles, valued at about <strong>\u20b92,182 crore<\/strong>, has been signed with <strong>JSC Rosoboronexport of Russia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These missiles will be deployed on Indian naval warships and are capable of <strong>rapid reaction and all-weather operations<\/strong>, enabling ships to defend themselves effectively against airborne threats. The ALH Mk-III helicopters will support the Coast Guard in <strong>patrolling India\u2019s vast coastline and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)<\/strong>, while the VL-Shtil missile systems will enhance the Navy\u2019s <strong>ability to protect warships from aerial attacks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The procurement also aligns with the government\u2019s broader defence modernization strategy and the <strong>\u201cMake in India\u201d initiative<\/strong>, which encourages domestic production of defence equipment and technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr
