Narendra Modi inaugurated the semiconductor Assembly, Test, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) facility of Micron Technology<\/strong> in <strong>Sanand, Gujarat<\/strong> on <strong>28 February 2026<\/strong>. This state\u2011of\u2011the\u2011art facility marks a major milestone in the country\u2019s semiconductor journey, strengthening its role in the global value chain and boosting domestic manufacturing capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sanand ATMP facility is part of the <strong>India Semiconductor Mission (ISM)<\/strong>, a government initiative to establish a robust semiconductor and electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India. With an investment of over <strong>\u20b922,500 crore (around $2.7 billion)<\/strong>, the facility will assemble, test, mark and package chips such as <strong>DRAM and NAND memory modules<\/strong>, which are essential components used in computers, smartphones, data\u2011centres, and other advanced technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spread across 500,000 square feet of cleanroom space \u2014 among the <strong>largest single raised\u2011floor cleanrooms in the world<\/strong> \u2014 the plant showcases cutting\u2011edge technology and advanced manufacturing processes. It has already begun <strong>commercial production and shipment<\/strong> of its first \u201cMade in India\u201d memory modules to global clients, including Dell Technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his address, PM Modi emphasized that this facility signifies India\u2019s transition from a software\u2011centric economy to a more balanced <strong>hardware and software powerhouse<\/strong>, underlining the importance of semiconductors as the backbone of modern technology, especially in the <strong>AI and digital era<\/strong> \u2014 where chips are as critical as oil was in the previous century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plant is expected to generate <strong>around 5,000 direct jobs<\/strong>, along with numerous indirect opportunities in ancillary industries, supply chains, logistics, and
