Defence) Shri Sanjay Seth<\/strong> inaugurated the fully restored <strong>Chungthang\u2011Lachen Axis and the 400\u2011foot Taram Chu Bailey Suspension Bridge<\/strong> on <strong>26th February 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This key transport link, stretching over <strong>28 kilometres<\/strong>, had suffered severe damage due to natural disasters over the past three years, including cloudbursts in <strong>May\u2011June 2025<\/strong>, <strong>Cyclone Remal in June 2024<\/strong>, and a devastating <strong>Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in October 2023<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Border Roads Organisation (BRO)<\/strong> executed this massive restoration under <strong>Project Swastik<\/strong>, clearing <strong>96 landslides<\/strong>, constructing 4 new bridges and repairing 2 others, and cutting fresh formations across unstable mountainous sections to reinstate connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The newly restored axis will now provide <strong>uninterrupted all\u2011weather connectivity<\/strong> for civilians, defence agencies, tourists, and local traders. This infrastructure is crucial for ensuring mobility in strategic forward areas near the India\u2011China border as well as supporting local economies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the inauguration, the MoS Defence acknowledged the BRO\u2019s remarkable efforts under challenging terrain and reiterated the project\u2019s alignment with the <strong>\u201cAtmanirbhar Sikkim \u2013 Viksit Bharat
