Unlike regular airports, this dual\u2011use emergency runway is engineered to support <strong>landing and take\u2011off of both military and civilian aircraft<\/strong> during emergencies, disaster responses, or strategic operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dual%E2%80%91Use_Design_Civilian_and_Military_Advantage\"><\/span><strong>Dual\u2011Use Design: Civilian and Military Advantage<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) is a reinforced highway segment without a central median, enabling aircraft movement on a runway\u2011like surface. It supports the operation of fighters and transport aircraft, including the Indian Air Force\u2019s <strong>Sukhoi\u201130 MKI, Rafale jets, and C\u2011130J transport planes<\/strong>, which conducted successful landings and take\u2011offs during the inaugural ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because of its location in Upper Assam \u2014 near the <strong>India\u2011China border<\/strong> \u2014 this highway runway significantly enhances India\u2019s strategic preparedness. In the event of natural disasters such as earthquakes or floods, the ELF can serve as a <strong>critical landing site for relief operations and air logistics<\/strong>, reducing response times and saving lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Operational_Readiness_and_Defence_Preparedness\"><\/span><strong>Operational Readiness and Defence Preparedness<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The facility is designed to handle fighter aircraft weighing up to 40 tonnes and heavy transport planes with maximum take\u2011off weights of up to 74 tonnes, making it versatile for a range of aerial operations. This capability ensures that, <strong>if conventional airfields are compromised during wartime or emergencies<\/strong>, the ELF can operate as a resilient alternate runway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to strategic defence benefits, the ELF strengthens regional connectivity and infrastructure development in the Northeast, reflecting the Government\u2019s commitment to expanding <strong>critical aviation assets<\/strong> across remote areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n<div
