This support aims to help continue and scale up efforts to boost disaster resilience, strengthen flood and erosion control, and protect millions of people living along the <strong>Brahmaputra River<\/strong>, a region known for frequent and devastating floods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new funding will supplement the already existing <strong>Climate Resilient Brahmaputra Integrated Flood and Riverbank Erosion Risk Management Project<\/strong>, which was launched in <strong>October 2023<\/strong> with an original budget of <strong>USD 200 million<\/strong>. The expanded project now includes additional high-priority stretches of the Brahmaputra River where flooding and erosion regularly displace communities and damage infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Integrated_Flood_and_Erosion_Control_Measures\"><\/span>Integrated Flood and Erosion Control Measures<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under this expanded project, the Assam government and implementing agencies will <strong>construct 63.5 kilometres of riverbank protection structures<\/strong>, upgrade and strengthen existing embankments, and introduce <strong>pro-siltation structures<\/strong> designed to encourage safe deposition of sediments. These measures are intended to help stabilise riverbanks, reduce the pace of erosion, and mitigate the severity of floods in vulnerable areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of modernising disaster management systems, the project will also strengthen <strong>flood forecasting and early warning capabilities<\/strong>, conduct <strong>erosion prediction modelling<\/strong>, and develop <strong>flood risk mapping systems<\/strong>. These data-driven elements will enhance preparedness and help communities take proactive measures when disasters are imminent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Focus_on_Inclusive_and_Sustainable_Solutions\"><\/span>Focus on Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The additional funding emphasises <strong>ecosystem-friendly<\/strong> and <strong>community-centric solutions<\/strong> such as the restoration of wetlands and nature-based mechanisms like <strong>reed and vegetation propagation<\/strong> to help absorb flood impacts naturally. Moreover, the project will focus on building <strong>livelihood resilience<\/strong>, including <strong>vocational training<\/strong>, strengthening disaster-resilient agriculture, and empowering women and other marginalised groups living in flood-prone rural regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, the expanded ADB project is expected to <strong>directly benefit about 600,000 rural residents<\/strong>, especially those from economically disadvantaged communities who are most affected by repeated floods and the loss of arable land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr
