voyage<\/strong>, symbolically retracing ancient maritime trade routes between <strong>Porbandar, Gujarat<\/strong> and <strong>Muscat, Oman<\/strong> on <strong>29 December 2025<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>INSV Kaundinya stands apart from modern vessels due to its construction technique rooted in India\u2019s ancient shipbuilding legacy. Using traditional <strong>stitched-plank methods<\/strong>, where wooden planks are sewn together with <strong>coconut coir rope<\/strong> and sealed with <strong>natural resins and fish oil<\/strong>, the vessel has <strong>no engine or metal fasteners<\/strong>. This made-from-nature configuration reflects the design and practices used by India\u2019s seafarers centuries ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project was flagged off by <strong>Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan<\/strong>, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, in the presence of the <strong>Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to India, Issa Saleh Al Shibani<\/strong>. The expedition will cover <strong>about 1,400 kilometres<\/strong> and take roughly <strong>15 days<\/strong> to reach Muscat at an average pace guided by natural winds and currents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>INSV Kaundinya\u2019s <strong>construction began in 2023<\/strong> under a tripartite <strong>Memorandum of Understanding<\/strong> between the <strong>Ministry of Culture<\/strong>, the <strong>Indian Navy<\/strong>, and <strong>Hodi Innovations<\/strong>. It was built by skilled artisans from <strong>Kerala<\/strong>, led by master shipwright <strong>Babu Sankaran<\/strong>, combining traditional craft and contemporary expertise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The design is inspired by <strong>Iconographic depictions of ships found in the Ajanta Caves dating back to the 5th century CE<\/strong>. This makes the voyage not just a naval exercise but also an anthropological and cultural revival of India\u2019s <strong>ancient seafaring traditions<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notably, <strong>Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes<\/strong> to the crew, highlighting that the expedition symbolises India\u2019s deep maritime heritage and underscores its historical links with nations
