The formal induction ceremony took place on <strong>December 23, 2025<\/strong>, at <strong>Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL)<\/strong>, which constructed the ship under the government\u2019s coastal defence enhancement programme. This milestone marks a significant step in India\u2019s ability to combat maritime pollution and enhance <strong>marine environmental security<\/strong> within its waters and beyond. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Samudra_Pratap_A_Technological_and_Structural_Marvel\"><\/span><strong>Samudra Pratap: A Technological and Structural Marvel<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Measuring <strong>114.5 metres in length<\/strong>, <strong>16.5 metres in breadth<\/strong>, and <strong>displacing around 4,170 tonnes<\/strong>, Samudra Pratap is currently <strong>the largest vessel in the ICG fleet<\/strong>. This vessel stands out for its <strong>high indigenous content (over 60%)<\/strong>, reflecting the government\u2019s <strong>Aatmanirbhar Bharat<\/strong> and <strong>Make in India<\/strong> objectives. GSL integrated advanced control and monitoring technologies that allow it to tackle various pollution scenarios, including <strong>oil spills<\/strong>, <strong>hazardous discharges<\/strong>, and <strong>marine contaminants<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Advanced_Systems_for_Pollution_Control\"><\/span><strong>Advanced Systems for Pollution Control<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Samudra Pratap comes equipped with specialised pollution response systems such as oil spill detection devices, onboard pollution laboratories, and separation equipment to extract viscous oils from contaminated water. It also features dynamic positioning capabilities (DP-I), which enable precise operations in variable sea conditions. These systems greatly enhance the ICG\u2019s ability to conduct <strong>high-precision pollution recovery missions<\/strong> within the <strong>Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)<\/strong> and adjoining waters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Integrated_Maritime_Operational_Capabilities\"><\/span><strong>Integrated Maritime Operational Capabilities<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond its environmental mission, the vessel boasts strong <strong>security and enforcement capabilities<\/strong>. It is outfitted with a <strong>30mm CRN-91 gun<\/strong>, <strong>two 12.7mm stabilised remote-controlled guns<\/strong>, and an <strong>automated firefighting system<\/strong>, enabling versatile operational roles like <strong>maritime law enforcement<\/strong>, <strong>search and rescue (SAR)<\/strong> support, and <strong>emergency response operations<\/strong>. Constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited, it highlights the growing role of Indian public sector undertakings in producing state-of-the-art maritime platforms \u2014 a key goal of the <strong>Make in India initiative<\/strong>.
